It is easy, stop once there is resistance to turning. It isn't much and it that is okay because it doesn't take much for that chain to be really tight. The tensioner is very effective at tensioning believe it or not. I have been told there is a true way to ensure it is properly adjusted. Start with bunch of slack on the chain and rock the secondary back and forth and you will hear the chain slap.

Keep doing that and have someone slowly tighten the adjuster. The second the slap goes away stop and you are all set.

I had to tighten my chain after every ride on my 17 Renny X. Doo manual states hand tight. I have cover off so i can see but hand tight is like a banjo string. Chain tension. Forgot to add that neither on them had any oil run out before I pulled the fill level plugs before I started. Today I filled them right until the oil came out the fill plug and they both took more or less 12 0z. Just a hair under maybe. Finger tight and then align the push pin? Snug it up? Check for deflection? PS this sled has reverse The same with the track, I've had it apart to replace some idlers, now i'm just not too sure how to check tension.

Like This Unlike Adamridesyellow 24 Oct I have an 03 renegade ho and when I get on the sled hard from a take off I can hear and feel the chain skipping thought it was track tension at first so I tightened the track and it still does it. So today I went to adjust it with the bolt on the back of the chain case with the locking pin. They say to tighten it hand tight and back it off a little until the locking pin slides through the hole, but when I tighten it hand tight the hole isnt close to lining up, I need to go another half a turn, but if I back it off so it lines up im right back to where it started and its too loose.

So the question is should I turn it another half a turn with a wrench until it lines up? Or will this damage the chain?

Or another option I thought of is to drill a new hole in the bolt so the locking pin slides through. Any tips would be appreciated.

Like This Unlike stealth bomber 25 Oct Sometimes the adjuster bolt gets seized in the chaincase and hard to turn, so what you think is finger tight actually isn't tight at all.

You can spray the bolt with penetrating oil and run it in and out a few times until it turns smoothly, use a wrench or a socket it you have to, just don't go crazy. Once you are confident the bolt is turning as it should, tighten it as tight as you can with your fingers and backs it off until the pin goes through. If it still skips after adjusting properly, removing the cover for further inspection is in order.

Mine seemed to be 'clunking' after the first miles so i figured that's what it was,and after i spent an evening trying to get at the adjuster bolt, i felt it was tight?

Now i'm a little worried, but how much can a fan stretch the chain anyway? Long story short, how do you guys check yours?

Thanks, Mike. I lock the brake and wiggle the secondary I only do that on sleds I know. It's only time consuming with the stock silencer, with most others it's a 2 minute job. I hate having to take off the silencer just to adjust my chain. You need the special tool to get at the springs. BRP should make a smaller muffler. Thats why it is a good idea to get a new silencer besides that are far lighter.

That's the way i check my chain also, but like you were getting at, i have to learn or visually check mine to get a 'feel' for the secondary.
