It is easy, stop once there is resistance to turning. It isn't much and it that is okay because it doesn't take much for that chain to be really tight. The tensioner is very effective at tensioning believe it or not. I have been told there is a true way to ensure it is properly adjusted. Start with bunch of slack on the chain and rock the secondary back and forth and you will hear the chain slap.
Keep doing that and have someone slowly tighten the adjuster. The second the slap goes away stop and you are all set.G4fj engine problems
I had to tighten my chain after every ride on my 17 Renny X. Doo manual states hand tight. I have cover off so i can see but hand tight is like a banjo string. Chain tension. Like This Unlike skirider 08 Nov So i know most will say remove cover But i used the handy drain plug Anyway you can't remove cover everytime you want to adjust So the question is how tight with suplied wrench Hand tight.
But that up for interpretation Anyone got any tricks. Like This Unlike stealth bomber 08 Nov Play with it a bit. Work it back and forth while visualizing what is happening in there. You want to take out the slack but not stretch the chain. So stop when it starts to get tight. To put it into words, about as tight as you would put the cap on a tube of toothpaste. Hope this helps. IMO the tools should have put the level plug at that spot rather than at 12 ounces, to avoid all the confusion. No damage will be done if you want to fill it all the way to the level plug.
What is the chain case oil capacity? I just drained our 2 XP's and by sucking the oil out the level plug with a MightyVac and I only got exactly 8 oz out of both sleds dumped old oil in a measuring cup to measure. Like This Unlike L. I removed the cover and measured just over 8 oz out. The same amount went back in until it started overflowing the small magnetic plug in the footwell side.
I used a 2oz syringe to fill it up, and it took 4 full syringes plus maybe a half until it overflowed. I'd say the 8. Like This Unlike racing 14 Nov 8. Learn how to update your browse.I have had the chaincase apart to replace the chain and have found the tensioner bolt, but i was just wondering what the proper tension on that chain should be? Finger tight and then align the push pin? Snug it up? Check for deflection? PS this sled has reverse The same with the track, I've had it apart to replace some idlers, now i'm just not too sure how to check tension.
Someone told me it should hang about 1. Like This Unlike Neurotoxin 26 Jan The track tension method and spec can be found in the operators manual. You can find it here: Link to operators manual As for chain tension the shop manual says: "Fully tighten tensioner adjustment screw by hand, then back off only far enough for hair pinto engage in locking hole.
The correct way is with a scale but I just eye mine. My dealer told me once that with the sled lifted fire it up and spin the track a bit and the top of the track nubs that go on the drive sprockets should be at the bottom of the sliders at the center of the suspension. Attached Images. Like This Unlike 28 Jan Thanks guys for the help Everything is now tensioned properly Although the links for the shop manuals wern't working, maybe it's just me thanks again!
So the question is should I turn it another half a turn with a wrench until it lines up? Or will this damage the chain?
Or another option I thought of is to drill a new hole in the bolt so the locking pin slides through. Any tips would be appreciated.Pasolini in tribunale
Like This Unlike stealth bomber 25 Oct Sometimes the adjuster bolt gets seized in the chaincase and hard to turn, so what you think is finger tight actually isn't tight at all.
You can spray the bolt with penetrating oil and run it in and out a few times until it turns smoothly, use a wrench or a socket it you have to, just don't go crazy. Once you are confident the bolt is turning as it should, tighten it as tight as you can with your fingers and backs it off until the pin goes through. If it still skips after adjusting properly, removing the cover for further inspection is in order.
Mine seemed to be 'clunking' after the first miles so i figured that's what it was,and after i spent an evening trying to get at the adjuster bolt, i felt it was tight?
Now i'm a little worried, but how much can a fan stretch the chain anyway? Long story short, how do you guys check yours?
Thanks, Mike. I lock the brake and wiggle the secondary I only do that on sleds I know. It's only time consuming with the stock silencer, with most others it's a 2 minute job. I hate having to take off the silencer just to adjust my chain. You need the special tool to get at the springs. BRP should make a smaller muffler. Thats why it is a good idea to get a new silencer besides that are far lighter.
I like quiet. But I hate cramped. Like This Unlike xwanted 23 Oct I just swapped tracks on my 09 R renegade and i dont know how tight the chain should be in the chaincase How much "play" should it have?
Like This Unlike Mike 23 Oct Seeing the adjuster bolts are near impossible to get at without tearing half the sled apart, does anyone have a 'measurement' of some kind for slop going off the secondary, brake disc, jack shaft, or something like that? That's the way i check my chain also, but like you were getting at, i have to learn or visually check mine to get a 'feel' for the secondary.
Edit: Does the reverse helix give the secondary a 'looser' feeling? Will it move more then my Rev with no reverse? Like This Unlike Gems4sale 23 Oct I hate having to take off the silencer just to adjust my chain.
